Introducing AIRFLOW: a Better Way to Maintain Oral Health

One of the most important things you can do to keep your gums healthy is schedule regular dental cleanings (twice a year for most patients). Teeth cleaning removes plaque and tartar from above and below the gumline through careful scraping with handheld instruments or ultrasonic tools. While this process is vital to your long-term oral health, for some patients, it can feel uncomfortable and time-consuming. That’s why we’re pleased to announce a new technology being implemented at Tooth Works – AIRFLOW. This new method reduces your time in the dental chair, with less discomfort.

Why We Grind

A common cause of tooth wear, bruxism isn’t something to ignore. Bruxism (BRUK-siz-um) is a condition in which you grind, gnash or clench your teeth. If you have bruxism, you may unconsciously clench your teeth when you're awake (awake bruxism) or clench or grind them during sleep (sleep bruxism). Sleep bruxism is considered a sleep-related movement disorder.

Managing Your Tooth Sensitivity

Tooth sensitivity is a very common patient complaint. It’s exactly what it sounds like: pain or discomfort in response to hot or cold stimuli. It can be temporary or chronic, it can affect multiple teeth, or just one. It can have a number of causes, but good news: most cases can be predictably managed.

Veneers Uncovered

Made from porcelain or composite materials, dental veneers are thin shells permanently bonded to the surface of teeth. They are largely used for cosmetic reasons (including chipped, broken, discoloured, or unevenly sized teeth), and most commonly placed on the top front four, six, eight or ten teeth. Veneers can be placed over a single tooth, or you may want up to ten veneers made in order to create a symmetrical smile.

What Exactly is a Root Canal?

A root canal (also known as endodontic treatment) is a safe, effective way to remove dying or dead (necrotic) nerves from a tooth, allowing you to keep your tooth rather than having to pull it out. We’ll go over when root canals are needed, what to expect from the procedure, aftercare, and debunk common myths.

The Intel on Implants

A long-lasting choice, implant dentistry brings you as close to growing new teeth as is possible. Placed in the bone in the same position as the roots that once supported teeth, implants offer the strength and function of natural teeth, and they have a natural appearance.

All About Crowns

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped “cap” that is placed over a tooth to restore its shape, size, and strength. Dental crowns, or caps, allow teeth to be rebuilt to their natural form, covered with materials that mimic natural enamel. Not only are most “capped” teeth indistinguishable from natural teeth, but they're also extremely secure and comfortable.
